We are so ready for vacation! We leave San Diego early (8:30 pm) because we’re excited and to make sure we get to LAX in plenty of time for our 12:55 am flight to Atlanta. Jeff has made custom box lunches for us to make sure we’re fueled for the fun ahead.Then disaster strikes… We’re all boarded on a full plane when the first officer tells us the captain is nowhere to be found. They’re flying a captain up from San Diego, but he won’t arrive until 3:00 am, which means we’ll miss our connection to San Jose.
There are at least three other passengers affected in addition to our party of six, but Delta won’t hold a flight or charter us to get us there on time. Two options: stay in Los Angeles and fly out tomorrow night to Atlanta; or fly to Atlanta that night. Either way, we’ve lost a day and night, whether in LA or Atlanta. We opt for LA and juggle our schedules and flights to accommodate. In the end, Tony and JimmyKim (JK) come back as scheduled, Mike and Ina come back a day late, and Jeff and Amy come back two days late. We’re thankful for Jeff’s box meals or it could have been really ugly.
